Optimal pixel size range

Based on the statement that a separate representation of objects is only successful if there is at least one additional pixel between them, the formula for determining a suitable focal length in planetary photography can also be used for the optimal pixel size range for a given telescope focal length and a given FWHM-value range.

Mono camera:

Color camera:

β_FWHM – seeing image scale in ["]
P – pixel size in [µm]
f – telescope focal length in [mm]

If the lower and upper limits of the existing seeing are used for the image scale β_FWHM (for Germany 2" - 4"), the optimum pixel size range for the telescope focal length can be determined in this way.
